I heard a quote last week that pierced through my preoccupied brain.
It was from Tish Harrison Warren’s book, the Liturgy of the Ordinary.
In it, she said…
Our way of being in the world works its own way into us through ritual and repetition. We’re shaped whether we know it or not by practices and rituals that make us who we are.
It was a powerful reminder of why feng shui–infused rituals matter so much.
When you create a ritual with intention—one that reflects your values and desires—you begin to co-conspire with the energy of your home to bring those desires to life.
These small acts literally reshape how you experience your space—and, in turn, your life.
Below are some of my favorite feng shui rituals and practices that I incorporate in my own home. Borrow the ones that resonate, adapt them as needed, and make them your own.
MY FAVORITE FENG SHUI RITUALS & PRACTICES
To clear the energetic dust bunnies that accumulate overnight ::
Open your bedroom windows for 5-10 minutes
Spritz your favorite room spray (I’m currently obsessed with Aura Soma room sprays)
Turn on your most loved playlist
To wake your house up in the morning ::
Open the shades in all your rooms to let the sunlight in (this will wash away any stagnant chi along with increase your clarity and visibility)
Open the front door and greet the day (our front doors are the mouth of chi; they’re where opportunities and abundance flow into your home)
Set an intention for your day as you light a candle
To tuck your house in for the night ::
Tidy any hot spots (gather stray water glasses, wipe off the kitchen counter, put away any laundry)
Take out the trash
Close all the shades (this helps the shift from active yang energy to quieter yin energy as well as creates a sense of protection and safety)
Shift from overhead lighting to ambient lighting (another way to soften the energy and remind your nervous system that it’s time to unwind)
Call in the angels of protection to watch over you through the night
Offer a prayer of gratitude to your home for the protection and support it provides
To call in abundance ::
Place 9 coins in a red envelope under your front door mat. Every time you walk into your home, acknowledge that money is walking in with you.
Buy yourself a bouquet of flowers weekly. It’s the perfect affirmation of your worthiness!
Keep a bowl of 9 oranges on your kitchen counter. 9 is the number of manifestation and the orange’s color is connected to the richness of gold.
Place a gratitude jar on the kitchen table - along with a pad of paper and a pen. Add a note of gratitude every night during dinner.
To soften prickly energy after an argument ::
Open the windows to let the heavy energy out and the fresh air in
Place a bowl of salt in the middle of the room to absorb the heavy energy (toss in an outside trash can after 24 hours)
Play soothing music (nature sounds are a great choice)
(Good practice is also keeping knives out of sight and replacing any violent or aggressive artwork/photography with more peaceful imagery.)
To honor the full moon ::
(full moons are a time of release and letting go)
Think of something you’d like to release emotionally. Write this down on a piece of paper.
Identify something in your home that’s a physical representation of what you’d like to release emotionally (ie. if you want to let go of painful feelings from a past relationship, declutter cards or photos from this relationship that are stashed away in the back of your closet)
Under the full moon, burn the piece of paper with what you want to release emotionally
Donate/sell/toss/burn the physical representation you identified
To honor the new moon ::
(new moons are a time for dreaming and setting intentions)
Think of something you’d like to attract into your life
Write this intention down on a piece of paper
Bury the piece of paper in a plant
Each time you water the plant, affirm that you are watering the seeds of your intention
NOW OVER TO YOU…
I’d love to hear about some of your favorite rituals and practices. Let me know in the comments.
