Which door do you come in?
Personally, I enter my house on the daily through the garage door. Sometimes even the back door if I’m taking my puppy Oliver out for a walk.Â
But, despite which door I tend to favor, I NEVER neglect my front door.Â
Why?
Because in feng shui, your front door is the mouth of chi. It’s where energy enters your home.
Think of it like your own body. Your mouth is where you breathe in life sustaining oxygen that travels to your lungs and then courses throughout your entire body.Â
Given this importance, you might be wondering how to optimize the energy coming into your front door, so that a constant stream of opportunities and possibilities become your norm.Â
HERE’S YOUR CHECKLIST:
Open your front door at least once a day. Bonus points if you open it while visualizing all the positive things you desire for your life waltzing in.
Sweep the area outside of your front door weekly. Again, bonus points when you pair this with a visualization. Negative energy being swept away from your home. Positive energy being swept into your home.
Check the pathway to your front door. Is there anything blocking the energy to your door? Overgrown shrubs are often a culprit.
Remove any clutter inside your front door. Particularly things that may be lingering on the floor. A pile of shoes not only trips you up, it also trips up the energy trying to enter your home.
Does your front door open fully? Maybe that pile of shoes or a piece of furniture is the offender. The more fully a door is able to open, the more receptive your home is to receiving positive energy.
Remove any clutter from outside the front door. Think of energy as a bee looking for a bright bloom. We want the energy to see things it’s attracted to, not the energy of dead plants, empty gardening pots, or a recycling bin.
If you have any type of lighting outside your front door, double check that there aren’t any burned out lightbulbs. AND whether you might replace any dim bulbs with a higher wattage bulb. (If you don’t have any lighting outside your door, can you add some small solar lights?)
Does your doorbell work? If opportunities come knocking, you want to be able to hear them!
Does your door handle work properly? Or do you have to fight with it to open the door? Struggling with the energy entering your home is never a good look!
If your front door has windows, grab a rag and some windex. In feng shui, windows are the eyes of your home. And you most definitely want to see all the amazing opportunities and possibilites headed your way.Â
Does your front door have a pop of color? Something that turns heads and says look at me is a win! Think a gorgeous wreath, vibrant pot of flowers, or whimsical pillows on a bench.
Refresh your welcome mat. What better way to court the energy coming into your home than to find a welcome mat that matches your personality. As a feng shui rule of thumb, welcome mats should be slightly wider than your door and shouldn’t be monogrammed. We don’t want you stepping all over yourself or your reputation. However, placing a few coins in a red envelope under your welcome mat symbolizes money walking into your home!Â
