I’ve been typing and deleting for a few hours now. Waiting for the perfect words to describe what we all feel.Â
I suspect I don’t need to describe it to you.Â
We are collectively feeling the A LOT- NESS of the world. Everything from wars to natural disasters to political tension has us holding our breath.Â
Our homes are holding their breath too.Â
As our bodies constrict because of the a lot-ness, so do our homes.Â
Our homes mirror whatever is happening within us. So when we feel anxious, our homes feel anxious. When we feel overwhelmed, our homes feel overwhelmed. When the energy within our bodies is constricted, the energy in our homes becomes constricted.Â
But, here’s the super, cool, magical thing!Â
We can use our homes to help us come back to center. To remind us to take a deep breath. To widen the gap between our shoulders and our ears. To stay open to hope and possibility.
When we shift the energy in our homes, we shift the energy in our lives.Â
Let’s get at it!Â
HERE ARE MY FAVORITE GO-TO WAYS FOR QUICKLY SHIFTING THE ENERGY IN YOUR HOME:
Open the windows
The simple act of opening your windows will allow your home to breathe. If the weather is too cold (or too hot) where you live, you don’t need to keep the windows open long. A few minutes will do. One of the ways I like to do this is to start at the front door and walk clockwise around my first floor and open every window as I come to it. Next, I go upstairs and do the same thing. Once all the windows are open, I reverse the process and close all the windows. Pro tip :: Before closing the windows, you can walk around the perimeter of each room clapping your hands. This will help break up any dense energy that’s lingering.Open the curtains
When depression and anxiety creep in, the temptation to keep the curtains drawn escalates. But when we close ourselves off to the outside world, we also close ourselves off to the light that wants to stream in.Light a candle
Candles are a universal symbol of hope and light and will instantly bring positive energy to any space. A candle in your favorite scent is genius!Turn on the tunes
Nothing lightens a mood more than the sounds of your favorite songs drifting through your space. Pro Tip :: Gravitate to music with nature sounds. Proven fact…nature sounds improve mood and reduce stress.Clean the floors
In feng shui, our floors are associated with the past as well as our subconscious. And that’s where a lot of our fears hide out. When you sweep, mop, or vacuum your floors, you’re replacing any lingering doubts or concerns with positive energy. Pro tip :: If any space is feeling particularly heavy, you can sprinkle a bit of salt on the floor before either sweeping or vacuuming. The salt will do the heavy lifting of absorbing negativity for you. (Sea salt and pink himalayan salt are both good options.)Add a bouquet of flowers
This might be my absolute favorite! There’s nothing like a bright bouquet of flowers to bring joy to any space. I love to place a vase of flowers in my kitchen, but then also add little bud vases of flowers in unexpected spaces throughout my home. Each one feels like a wink and a nod to the positive vibes I crave.Â

I like to smudge after cleaning with either palo santo or sage! :)
Great tips. I'm doing all of these things today except the flowers - We live in the country, none to pick up here.
